State of Rajasthan will witness light weather activity for the next one week. Earlier, extremely heavy rains ravaged some of the districts, both in East and West Rajasthan. West, Central and Northeast Rajasthan will witness moderate showers today and only light elsewhere. Tomorrow, the activity will vacate South and West Rajasthan and limited monsoon showers are expected over Northwest and Northeast Rajasthan. General improvement in weather conditions are likely later on, for about a week.
As a norm, East Rajasthan experience more rains than the arid region of West Rajasthan. Nearly 40% of share of the state comes from West Rajasthan and the rest 60% is attributable to East Rajasthan. However, monsoon 2022 has deluged the Western half of the state more severely than the Eastern one. As a result, West Rajasthan is surplus with 76% rainfall and East Rajasthan, about half of it, with 41% so far in the season. The state can breath easy and restore recovery in the available window of one week.
Precariously, the monsoon trough remained positioned well south of its normal place for longer durations. It stretched across central parts of the state for extended period. Additionally, monsoon systems travelling across the central parts of the country reached the southern and central parts of the state and stayed parked for days together. Even the last posts of the state like Jaisalmer, Barmer, Phalodi and Pokhran, literally known for scorching conditions were run over by monsoon downpour, more than once.
Monsoon trough is in the process of shifting northward, under the influence of a fresh western disturbance arriving over the Western Himalayas. Today, it still remains south of normal position passing through Bikaner. Tomorrow, it is likely to be placed over North Rajasthan in the proximity of Ganganagar, Suratgarh, Anupgarh and Hanumangarh. Subsequently, the trough will shift further north along the foothills of Punjab and Haryana. The farther position of the trough will spare most parts of the state from any inclement weather conditions. More so, the southern and central parts will observe week long window of suitable weather conditions for the relief and recovery. The southward oscillation of the monsoon trough will commence again, but not before 03rd August. Monsoon will stay lean and subdued for one week and pick up later in the 1st week of August.
