rain in RajasthanUpdated on July 25, 2015, 02:30 PM (IST): Low pressure area over East Rajasthan brings heavy rains

The low pressure area over East Rajasthan and adjoining West Madhya Pradesh has been bringing good showers in the area. It could intensify into a well-marked low pressure area and further into a depression.

Monsoon 2015 continues to perform quite well in East Rajasthan. The cumulative rainfall figure in this part of the country remains normal to the tune of 15%.

With forecast of more heavy rain in the coming days, the cumulative rainfall figure in East Rajasthan could inch towards excess as well.

This region is mostly sandy and thus, cannot sustain very heavy rainfall. Moreover, continuous rainfall could lead to inundations and stagnation of water. Flood-like situation cannot be ruled out given the present circumstances.

Updated on July 23, 2015, 02:30 PM (IST): Monsoon rains on a reducing note in Rajasthan

Rajasthan has received widespread light rain on Wednesday. The cyclonic circulation near Gujarat is moving away, but it is still capable of bringing some rain in South Rajasthan. The Monsoon trough is also passing through Rajasthan and thus, we cannot rule out the possibility of some rain in extreme North Rajasthan during next 24 hours.

Meanwhile, here's a look at the rainfall figures in Rajasthan during last 24 hours:

Rain in Rajasthan

Updated on July 22, 2015, 06:30 PM (IST): Rajasthan receives widespread Monsoon rains

Southwest Monsoon entered Rajasthan much before the scheduled date. Monsoon covered the entire state almost three weeks earlier than its onset date of July 15. And since then, Rajasthan has been receiving on and off Monsoon showers.

The month of June ended on a good note. West Rajasthan ended with excess Monsoon rainfall of 78%, while East Rajasthan received an excess of 54%. So far this Monsoon season, both the sub-divisions have received normal or excess rainfall.

July has not received very heavy showers and as of today, Monsoon rains are surplus by 10% in West Rajasthan and normal in East Rajasthan. However, Rajasthan has received fairly widespread rainfall during last 24 hours. The cyclonic circulation prevailing over Kutch and adjoining Rajasthan region is responsible for rain in the state.

In last 24 hours, Kota received 77 mm of rain, Bundi 47 mm, Mount Abu 44 mm, Udaipur 24 mm and Jaisalmer 21 mm. Rest of the places in the state received 5 to 10 mm of rain.

Monsoon forecast in Rajasthan

Rainfall is likely to continue at least for next 24 hours. East and South Rajasthan will receive more rainfall than the western parts of the state.

Since Rajasthan is a very big state in terms of area, the variability of Monsoon rain is very high in East and West Rajasthan. So much so that, East Rajasthan receives almost double the rainfall received by West Rajasthan. Moreover, even small amounts of rainfall in both the regions sway the average rainfall figures to a large extent. This is because the normal average rainfall in Rajasthan is very low.
