Gujarat and Rajasthan have been receiving good rain activities since the beginning of the monsoon. As of now, western Rajasthan is large rain excess with 73% surplus and East Rajasthan is rain excess with 22% surplus, Saurashtra and Kutch has received 43% surplus rain whereas, the Gujarat region is surplus by 22%.

It is surprising that these two states have been witnessing good monsoon rains until now. Although, the rain average for Saurashtra and Kutch and western parts of Rajasthan is comparatively low. The formation of successive low-pressure areas over the Bay of Bengal which travelled in a westerly direction across Central India to Gujarat and South Rajasthan are responsible for these rains.

Barmer, Jodhpur, Ajmer and Jaipur in Rajasthan recorded moderate to heavy rain during last 24 hours. A well-marked low-pressure area over Odisha will intensify into a depression and will continue to move in a westerly direction towards south Rajasthan. Therefore, moderate to heavy rains may continue over east Rajasthan during next 24 hours. Thereafter, western districts of Rajasthan will also receive moderate to heavy rain until August 17. This time Gujarat may not receive heavy rainfall. But light to moderate rain is possible over Gujarat during next 2-3 days.
