Odisha has received light to moderate rains at many places, while southern districts of Chhattisgarh also received good rains. In the last 24 hours from 8.30 am on Tuesday, Sambalpur in Odisha witnessed heavy rain to the tune of 42.3 mm, Bhubaneshwar 32.9 mm, Cuttack 28.2 mm, Bhabanipatna 22 mm and Balasore 19.8 mm.

Meanwhile, Koraput recorded 9.6 mm of rain, Paradip 6.6 mm, Pulbani 6 mm and Angul 2.4 mm of rain. In the same span of time, Jagdalpur in Chhattisgarh recorded 20.5 mm of rain, Pendra 9.4 mm and Raipur 5 mm of rain.
These rains can be attributed to a north- south trough which was extending from Bihar to Interior Odisha across Jharkhand. At present, a cyclonic circulation is over the northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha coast and another cyclonic circulation is developing over southeast Madhya Pradesh and adjoining Vidarbha.

Due to these two weather systems, we expect that light to moderate with one or to heavy spells to continue over Chhattisgarh, particularly over the central and southern districts of the state. Raipur, Bilaspur, Jagdalpur, Durg, Rajnandgaon in Chhattisgarh will record good showers.
Odisha will also receive good rains for the next 24 hours. Places such as Cuttack, Barpada, Jharsuguda, and Sambalpur in Odisha will witness good rains.
Thereafter intensity of rains over Odisha will decrease significantly but rains over Chhattisgarh will continue for another two to three days. Weather across both the states will remain warm but the sky will be cloudy over Chhattisgarh and partly cloudy over Odisha.
