Another good spell of Monsoon showers over the weekend helped Delhi in surpassing the monthly average rainfall of 233 mm. So far, the Palam Observatory has recorded 257 mm of rain, and with almost two more weeks to go, Delhi might even break the 10 year August rainfall record of 362.6 mm, observed in 2010.
Rains during this period (weekend) were however, patchy in nature and the intensity varied from light to heavy. In last 48 hours, Palam Observatory recorded 65.2 mm rain, while Safdarjung received 9.6 mm rain only.
According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, the recent spell of rain in the city was due to the oscillation of the Monsoon trough from south to north. Moreover, the proximity of the cyclonic circulation in Haryana and its adjoining region further enhanced the rainfall activity.
Looking at the weather models at Skymet, the intensity of rain will reduce now. Only patchy light rain is expected in the city during the next three days.
The weather will remain cloudy to partly cloudy with westerly winds blowing over the region. Humidity levels will be low but there will be a gradual increase in the temperatures. The day temperatures are expected to settle in the mid 30s, while the night temperatures are likely to settle in the mid 20s.
Let us have a look at the rainfall figures recorded in various parts of Delhi in a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday.
