For the last two days, Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh have practically recorded nil rainfall. On the other hand, Uttarakhand has been observing good rainfall.

In the coming days, weathermen do not foresee much changes in the prevailing weather conditions. Fairly widespread rain and thundershowers are likely to continue over Uttarakhand for the next 2-3 days. Places like Pantnagar, Mussoorie, Nainital, Dehradun, Haridwar, and Rishikesh are all likely to record a rainy weekend.

These rains can be attributed to the oscillation of Monsoon trough along with a cyclonic circulation marked over Haryana and adjoining areas.

Meanwhile, in absence of any Western Disturbance, Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh would see mostly dry weather. However, localized activity can be seen at some places.

As we reach fag end of August, Monsoon current becomes week. It is now time for Monsoon to start withdrawing from West Rajasthan and within the next couple of days it would also retrieve from the hills of North India.

Thus, hilly states, particularly Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh would be dependent only on the passage of Western Disturbance.

So far in Monsoon 2018, all three states have performed well are currently in with normal rainfall bracket. While Jammu and Kashmir is witnessing above normal rains by 10%, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh are marginally deficit by 5% and 4%, respectively.

With these ongoing rains, Uttarakhand would be able to cover up the meager deficiency. However, Himachal Pradesh might see slight increase in the deficiency figures.
