Rainy Weekend For Delhi, May Not Catch Up Monthly Normal

February 24, 2022 8:00 PM |

January 2022 was the rainiest month for the capital city since 1901, when reliable records started getting stored.  February, otherwise the rainiest wintry month may fall short of the monthly target. The base observatory at Safdarjung has recorded 18.6mm of rainfall so far, against the normal of 22.1mm.  Last 2 weeks, between 10thFeb and 24thFeb, remained practically dry, leading to slump in the February.

An active western disturbance over northern mountains has resulted heavy weather activities. There was a spill over to the foothills of Punjab and Haryana. Passage of a fresh western disturbance today and tomorrow, trailed by yet another will twist the weather conditions over the national capital also, on 25th Feb and 26th Feb. An induced cyclonic circulation has appeared over parts of Rajasthan and neighborhood.   The resultant change in wind pattern is expected to alter weather conditions over Delhi and suburbs, over the next 2 days.

Partial cloud cover is likely tomorrow during the later half of the day.  Sky is expected to become overcast in the night and  rain/ thundershower may follow around midnight.  Weather activity will extend to Saturday morning and forenoon hours.  Second half of the day will start finding clearance, with some cloud cover persisting during evening and night. Sunday, 27thFeb could witness sunshine  and pleasantly warm afternoon.

Spells of rain and showers will be short and sweet, raising the minimum temperature and sliding down the day mercury level.  Light and intermittent rain may not suffice to fill the monthly shortfall of about 4mm. Unlike January, this month may underscore its monthly target of 22.1mm.
