Last weekend saw some good spell of rain for all the major cities in India including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai. In fact, Chennai, in particular, witnessed good spells of rain during that period.
This weekend will also witness similar weather conditions over all these cities, Let’s take a look at the weather conditions for major cities in India during the weekend.
Delhi
The cyclonic circulation which is over Chhattisgarh and adjoining areas is expected to move closer to Delhi and the NCR region in the next 24 hours. Thus, with the system being in close proximity to Delhi, the national capital is expected to receive light to moderate rain on Saturday and Sunday.
However, the intensity of rains will be more on Sunday. Both the days will witness cloudy sky conditions, light winds and some relief from high humidity levels. Temperatures will also drop slightly over the city. While Delhi has already surpassed its monthly average rains, more rains will only add to the high rain figures.
Mumbai
Mumbai rains had displayed a much better performance during the last few days of June as compared to July. However, on and off rains have continued over the city throughout the month. While three digit rain remained absent from the city, more than 50 mm rainfall has been witnessed on several occasions.
So far, Mumbai has witnessed around three-fourth of its monthly rains in July. The coming weekend will bring more rains for the maximum city. These rains will be attributed to the fresh cyclonic circulation which is currently off the Andhra coast. This weather system is expected to move inland towards Maharashtra and is also expected to enhance the off shore trough. Thus, Mumbai is expected to receive rain on both the days, i.e. Saturday and Sunday.
Chennai
Chennai rains were active during the last weekend. Good rains were recorded on both Saturday and Sunday. Similar weather conditions are expected to prevail over the capital city of Tamil Nadu around this weekend as well.
The cyclonic circulation is over Andhra Coast and a trough is also extending from this system up to the Tamil Nadu coast. Due to these weather features, Chennai is expected to receive some rainfall activity during the weekend. Sunday will be rainier as compared to Saturday.
Kolkata
Kolkata will witness subdued Monsoon rains as compared to the other three metro cities. However, both Saturday and Sunday will observe passing Monsoon showers. While rains may not be as much as in Mumbai, passing showers will bring in some relief.
These rains will be attributed to the cyclonic circulation which is over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim. Also, the axis of Monsoon trough is running in close proximity of Kolkata. Both the days will witness cloudy sky conditions as well.
