Rainy weekend ahead for Bangalore

July 14, 2016 3:42 PM | Skymet Weather Team

Southwest Monsoon made an onset over the city in the beginning of June. Thus, Bangalore rains displayed a splendid performance during the month of June. So much so that the city received more than double its monthly normal rains.

While the monthly normal rains for Bangalore is 89.1 mm in June, the city recorded a whopping 192.1 mm of rainfall. However, the month of July has not been good enough for the city in terms of rain.

In fact, almost half the month has passed by and Bangalore has only managed to record 7 mm of rain. For the past few days, only traces of rain has been received in the city.

The monthly average rain for Bangalore stands at 108.9 mm in July, which means Bangalore still needs to receive 101 mm of rainfall in 16 days to reach the monthly target. Last July, Bangalore received 94.1 mm of rain and wasn’t able to reach its monthly rains.

Now, good rains are likely over the silicon city around the weekend. A cyclonic circulation is developing in Southwest Bay of Bengal off the Tamil Nadu and South Andhra Pradesh coast which is why Bangalore will receive rain between July 16 and 18.

While these rains may not be enough for the city to surpass its monthly rains, it surely will bring down the temperatures.
