After having the heavy monsoon showers on the last day of July, Delhi has observed only light and patchy rainfall. That rainfall will be counted against 01st August, as it was experienced after 8.30 in the morning. Speckled and uneven rains were witnessed last evening also, wherein the base observatory recorded 5 mm of rainfall and the Palam station mere 1 mm. The meteorological office at Lodhi Road recorded 4.3mm of rainfall. Light and patchy rainfall was observed in other parts of Delhi, varying between 1 and 5 mm. Similar kinds of conditions prevail today also and are changing tomorrow onwards.
A low-pressure area is marked over Northeast Rajasthan and Northwest Madhya Pradesh. The cyclonic circulation is extending up to medium levels. This feature is keeping the seasonal monsoon trough, south of its normal position and south of Delhi, as well. Following this pattern, the moist easterly winds have strengthened over and around the national capital. Conditions remain favourable for short and sweet fleeting showers during the later half of the day in some parts of Delhi.
An east-west-orientated monsoon trough is stretching across North Rajasthan, Southeast Uttar Pradesh, North Madhya Pradesh, North Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, and Gangetic West Bengal. On the eastern side, it is supported by another embedded cyclonic circulation over Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand. Both the circulations on either end of the trough are likely to get subsumed by the monsoon trough over the next 48 hours. The feature is going to remain in place with minor oscillations for the next 5-6 days. This will keep the monsoon active across the length and width of the area of influence of the seasonal trough.
Delhi will have very light and uneven showers today. The situation is like, may or may not, but if at all, only light and sketchy. The pattern will stabilise tomorrow and continue thereafter till the weekend. Intensity and cover could become moderate and spread out as well. This trend may remain till the weekend. In between, a few spells of heavy showers are also likely, more so on the 7th, 10th, and 11th of August. The situation is unlikely to ease out soon, and the moderate showers may as well spill over to the next week. Since the model forecast is not much reliable beyond 5 days, the prediction will be reviewed and updated around mid-week.
