Meteorological situation is building up for heavy rains over Bengaluru and suburbs. The silicon city has already reached near monthly normal by registering 150 mm rainfall against the average of 168mm.

The city has rained almost everyday in this month, with showers lashing most parts with varying intensity. In the past 24 hours also, some areas witnessed   vigorous thundershowers, specially the southern parts of the city.

October is the rainiest month of post monsoon season for Bengaluru. The rains peak during October and nearly get over by mid December with some hiatus even during November. Meteorologically, there is a cyclonic circulation over East Central Arabian Sea, off Coastal Karnataka.

This is likely to persist and shift southward, off North Kerala and South Coastal Karnataka, for the next 4-5days. Also, there is a cyclonic circulation on the other side of the coastline, over Bay of Bengal. The shear line joining these 2 features will keep proximity over South Interior Karnataka in general and the capital city Bengaluru in particular.

The weather conditions will generally remain pleasant with cloudy sky and moderate temperatures. Mercury may drop below 20°C, in the early morning hours, setting little nip in the air. As such, most of the rainy activity will occur during late evening, night and early morning hours with intermittent breaks during forenoon and afternoon.

Lightning strikes will be frequent and strong  during this period and therefore need to be guarded up. Thunderstorm activity is likely to be accompanied with strong winds, with a possibility of uprooting trees. Localized flooding and waterlogging may accompany the rain havoc.
