During the entire month of August, West Bengal including Kolkata received heavy to very heavy rainfall. The entire state, especially Kolkata received so much rainfall that the city received double its monthly mean rainfall with 600 mm of rain.
At present, a low pressure area can be seen over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining North Bay of Bengal. Due to this, moderate to heavy rainfall can be seen over Gangetic West Bengal including Kolkata. Kolkata is expected to receive good rains for next 48 hours with few very heavy spells.
After September 7, light to moderate rain will continue till the weekend, so we can say that during the course of this entire week, on & off rain activity will be witnessed over the state including Kolkata.
Gradually this weather system will move north and will affect the parts of East India. Jharkhand, Bihar sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim are the regions that will be affected by this weather system. But even with the northern movement, the weather system will affect the weather over Gangetic West Bengal and scattered rainfall will continue over many districts of Gangetic West Bengal.
Gangetic West Bengal has received 963.4 mm of rains during the entire season of Monsoon staring from June 1 and is 3% rain surplus than the normal. But sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim is still experiencing 5% deficient rainfall for the Monsoon season.
