Rainy week ahead for Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot, Valsad

August 25, 2017 11:32 AM | Skymet Weather Team

After giving rains in mid-August, the rains took a brief break of 4-5 days before lashing with a bang again and on August 20 most parts of Gujarat recorded moderate to heavy showers. Since then, rains have reduced considerably over most parts of the state. While, the southern coastal region of the state continued with light spells that occurred in the last 24 hours as well,  the northern parts of the state remained dry.

Within the span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Thursday, Valsad recorded 8 mm of rains, Porbandar 4 mm, Dwarka 2 mm, Veraval 2 mm, and Surat observed 0.2 mm of rains.

As per Skymet Weather, now, subdued rains are likely to continue for another 24 hours. Thereafter, there will be a marginal increase in the rainfall activity over the southern parts of the state including districts such as Surat, Bhavnagar, and Valsad.

From August 27 onward, a significant increase in the rain activity can be anticipated over many parts of Gujarat that would include districts such as Ahmadabad, Rajkot, Bhavnagar, and Vadodara.

Skymet Weather reiterates these increased rains will be due to the westward movement of the weather system which is at present over Odisha and adjoining region as a cyclonic circulation. This weather system will induce a low-pressure area and will move towards Gujarat thereby enhancing rains.

The intensity of rains will be moderate to heavy with chances of one or two very heavy spells making an appearance around August 28 and 29 over the southern parts of Gujarat.

By August 30, rains will once again start reducing over the state and weather system will gradually move away westwards. Thus, the last week of August is going to be a rainy one.
