These rains are attributed to the trough which is in close proximity of West Bengal extending from the low-pressure area over Uttar Pradesh and adjoining Bihar region up to coastal Andhra Pradesh.
Light to moderate rains are expected to continue over Kolkata during the next 24 hours as well. So far, in the month of July, Kolkata has been able to witness about 140. 1 mm of rain against its monthly mean of 396 mm. Looking at the weather conditions for the next few days, it seems like it won't be too difficult for the city of joy to surpass its monthly average rains.
