Several parts of East and Northeast India continue to witness scattered light to moderate rain for the second consecutive day.
According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, a prevailing cyclonic circulation over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining areas along with confluence of westerly winds from Odisha and Jharkhand and moist southwesterly winds from Bay of Bengal is causing rain over the region.
As per the latest forecast, the weather systems will intensify further and give more rain over West Bengal, Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, East Bihar and parts of Odisha during next 24 to 48 hours.
Thereafter, rainfall activity over East India is expected to decrease gradually as the cyclonic circulation will move in a northeast direction.
However, this movement will increase rain over Northeast India, both in terms of spread and intensity. The moisture incursion from Bay of Bengal will also continue over the northeastern states by the help of southwesterly winds.
As a result, Manipur and Nagaland will also start receiving good amounts of rainfall. According to Skymet, rainy spells over Northeast India will continue for at least four to five days more.
Let us have a look at the rainfall figures across East and Northeast India in a span of 24 hours from8:30 am on Sunday.
