Rainy spell to continue over West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar

The East Indian region of the country have been witnessing some rainfall activity for the past few days. In fact, during the last 24 hours, good showers have been witnessed over the state of Bihar. Meanwhile, the state of Odisha also saw isolated moderate showers during the similar time frame. Light rainfall in isolated pockets were also seen over some parts of Jharkhand as well as West Bengal.

In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Saturday, Purnea recorded 33 mm of rains, Supaul 21 mm, Angul 19 mm, Sundargarh 17 mm, and Puri 8 mm. Other areas to have received light rainfall include Bhubaneswar 5 mm, Cuttack 3 mm, Jamshedpur 3 mm, Balasore 2 mm, Bhagalpur 1 mm, Midnapore 1 mm, and Shanti Niketan 0.3 mm.

These rains have been attributed to the cyclonic circulation which can be seen over eastern parts of Bihar and adjoining areas. A trough is also extending from this system up to Odisha region.

As per weathermen at Skymet Weather, eastern parts of Bihar and Jharkhand are expected to witness rains during the next 24 hours. Rain intensity will be on the moderate side for East Jharkhand while the western areas will see lesser rains. In fact, on and off rains will continue until May 2.

Meanwhile, the states of West Bengal as well as Odisha are likely to witness moderate rains from tomorrow evening and a few areas may even witness heavy showers. Cities of Kolkata, Bankura, Purulia, Balasore, Keonjhargarh, and Baripada will be the ones witnessing rains. Along with this, squally winds and moderate lightning are also expected over these areas. These showers are expected to continue throughout the week.
