The northern hills have been enjoying good weather conditions for the last one week. While the plains witnessed rainy weather, the hills remained dry. Temperatures were also comfortable with maximums settling in mid-twenties and minimums recording in double digits.
On Wednesday morning, Srinagar recorded 10.3°C as minimum temperature, which is 3 degrees above normal. However, back to back Western Disturbances will bring back rainy weather in the hills and pull down the temperatures in the region .
First spell of rain (April 15-17)
A feeble Western Disturbance will start affecting weather from Wednesday itself. Initially the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir will receive rain, gradually spreading to rest of the state. On Thursday, light to moderate rainfall is likely in Jammu and Kashmir. However, rain will be light in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. By Friday the rainfall activity is expected to reduce considerably in the region.
Second spell of rain (April 19-20)
The second spell will commence from April 19, giving good amounts of rain in isolated parts of Jammu and Kashmir. The system will be more active this time and even the Srinagar valley will receive good showers. Snowfall can also be excepted in the higher reaches of the state. The other two hilly states of North India, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, could also receive good amounts of rain on April 19 and 20.
Day temperatures, which have been quite comfortable for a week now, will witness a dip of about 5 to 7°C in Jammu and Kashmir. Even the other two hilly states will witness a drop in temperatures.
