March is not known for too many spells of rain but this time we have already had record-breaking rain and snowfall across large parts of the country. And one more rainy spell is in the offing. Multiple weather systems will bring widespread rain till March 17 and the only parts to be left out would be Northeast India, Odisha, West Bengal, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
Rain in South India
Pre-monsoon activity has begun in South India. And an extended rainy spell for about 3 days, beginning on March 14, is likely in Peninsular India. The Kerala coast and interiors will receive more rain than the East Coast.
Rain in Central India
Earlier, the rainy spell was initiated by passage of Western Disturbance in North India but this time a cyclonic circulation over south Rajasthan and Gujarat area will begin the rainy spell. Parts of Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh have already started receiving some rain. In Maharashtra, Akola received 4.9 mm of rain in last 24 hours, Wardha 13.3 mm, Amravati 12 mm, and Yeotmal 1.8 mm of rain. Guna and Indore in Madhya Pradesh received 4 mm and 3.2 mm of rain, respectively.
Rain in North India
The rain belt will extend and cover Rajasthan, Gujarat, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi-NCR and west Uttar Pradesh by March 13. On the 14th March, rain will recede from Gujarat. On the other hand, a fresh Western Disturbance will join the system over Central India and reinforce rainfall activity over entire North India including the hilly states. Left over crops in Punjab and Haryana could be destroyed by hailstorm. Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh could also receive some rain on the 14th and 15th. Rain will start losing steam from the entire country by the 16th and completely recede by the March 17.
