Monsoon rains have taken a backseat over the state of Gujarat for the past few days. While the state has witnessed a few good spells during the Southwest Monsoon season, the rain deficiency has been haunting the state.
Now, Monsoon rains have made a comeback over the state of Gujarat. Scattered rains have occurred over coastal parts of the state. While rains have been light in nature, a few cities have witnessed moderate showers.
During the last 21 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday, many areas received light Monsoon rains including Ahmedabad 3 mm, Veraval 3 mm, Porbandar 3 mm, and Baroda 1 mm.
These rains can be attributed to the low pressure area which is currently over Telangana and adjoining areas. Due to this weather system, the moisture incursion has increased over many areas of Gujarat resulting in good Monsoon showers.
Furthermore, the Monsoon system is expected to shift westwards towards the West Coast. Thus, rains are expected to increase over the coastal areas of Gujarat. While the coastal areas are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rains. The intensity of these rains will be slightly less over the interiors.
However, Saurashtra will also receive some Monsoon rains during the next 2 to 3 days. The Kutch region is expected to remain mostly dry apart from a few isolated spells.
