March 11, 2016 11:18 PM |

Rainy Saturday ahead for MumbaiMumbai rains are all set to make an appearance at the commercial capital once again. After a prolonged dry spell of about three months, good showers lashed Mumbai on March 4. The Sensex city received about 10 mm of rain in a span of 24 hours.

While some Mumbaikars rejoiced, others took to micro-blogging site blaming Climate Change for these weather conditions.

Usually, in the month of March, Mumbai receives merely 0.2 mm of rainfall, however, this year, conditions are different.

After last week’s rain, temperatures had reduced marginally, however, soon the mercury started its rising trend again, and the maximum reached 35 degree Celsius on March 10. Minimums were also settling in the mid-20s.

Mumbai records its maximum in the mid-30s. On several occasions, temperatures also reach the 40-degree mark. In fact, five out of ten years the maximum has been recorded as 40 degrees in March.

Now, an offshore trough is extending along the coast from Kerala to Konkan, Goa and Mumbai. Another east-west trough is running from Jharkhand across Chhattisgarh, and Maharashtra. The combined effect of this system and the oscillation of this trough will result in the development of convective clouds.

Thus, light rain in patches will occur over Mumbai on March 11. The intensity will not be as strong as the last spell of rain. However, this rainy period will register a drop in the maximum, and minimum temperatures.
