Since the last 24 hours, scattered rain and thundershower activities along with isolated heavy showers have been going on over Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, North Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal.
Data-wise, Asansol in West Bengal has received 3.9 mm of rainfall, followed by Bankura 1.6 mm and Burdwan 1.2 mm, during the last 24 hours.
According to Skymet Weather, the reason for these rains can be attributed to the Confluence Zone which is present over East Madhya Pradesh up to Gangetic West Bengal across Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh.
Now, with the persistence of this Confluence Zone for another 24 hours, we expect rains to continue over North Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, North Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal during the next 24 hours. At present, very dense cloud have formed over these parts which would result in intense spells, strong gusty winds and lightning strikes over all these places.
Moreover, moderate rain and thundershower at some places with squall and lightning at few places will occur over Balod, Baloda Bazar, Balrampur, Bastar, Bemetara, Bijapur, Dakshin Bastar Dantewada, Dhamtari, Durg, Gariabandh, Janjgir - Champa, Jashpur, Kabeerdham, Kondagaon, Korba, Mahasamund, Mungeli, Narayanpur, Raigarh, Raipur, Rajnandgaon, Sukma, Surajpur, Surguja, Uttar Bastar and Kanker districts of Chhattisgarh during next 24 hours
Several other places like Ambikapur, Pendra Road, Bilaspur, Korea, Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Gumla, Purlia, Bankura and West Midnapore will get the touch of these rains. Moreover, at one or two places, hailstorm activities cannot be ruled out. In addition to these activities, strong winds will blow with a speed of 60 kmph.
These rains will continue until March 18. Thereafter, as the weather system will start moving in east directions, we expect rains to start receding from these states and weather to go completely dry on March 19.
After this rainy episode, there will be a gap of 24 hours and another weather system will knock the doors of these states, most probably on March 20. During that time, a Trough will develop which would be extending from Jharkhand up to Karnataka. This Trough will bring along prolonged spell for Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal. These rains will complement the ‘festival of colours- Holi’.
