Pre-Monsoon season has not been very fortunate for Pune city and this is the reason that hot weather conditions prevailed over the city with very little drops of pouring observed. But now, some rains are making their way towards the city.
Very light rain of 0.2 on May 7 and then mere spells of 2 mm on May 12 had been observed by the so-called “Queen of Deccan”. Since then, the weather has remained dry. On account of the absence of rains, though the maximum temperatures have stayed near normal but the minimums have remained slightly above normal.
However, in the last 48 hours, the maximums have dropped drastically by 4 degrees from 41.1°C to 37.1°C. Hence a marginal relief from the scorching summer heat has been observed by the Puneities. Moreover, with predictions of a few more showers, more relief is in sight for Pune.
As per Skymet Weather, a trough was extending from Northwest Madhya Pradesh to West Madhya Maharashtra region. Due to this, Pune and the adjoining regions were dry. But now, this trough is expected to extend further covering Konkan and Goa region also heading over Pune.
Thus, this weather system is likely to bring rains. Isolated thunderstorms or very light rains are expected to occur in parts of the city spanning from May 18 and May 20. In a nutshell, the rain and thunderstorm are sure to bring relief from the ongoing scorching heat.
