After an excellent performance during the Southwest Monsoon season, the month of October has also turned out to be good in terms of rainfall.

However, these rains are not beneficial for the agriculture sector as harvesting of grapes and many other fruits are going on over many parts of Maharashtra. Until October 29, Konkan and Goa were large excess by 134%, Madhya Maharashtra by 174%, Marathwada by 213% and Vidarbha is the only region with a deficiency of 12%.

Now we expect rains to continue in Maharashtra for another 24 to 48 hours. Vidarbha, north Madhya Maharashtra, parts of Marathwada will see light to moderate rain during the next 24 hours. Thereafter rains will subside over Vidarbha but will continue over Madhya Maharashtra, and parts of Marathwada. While light scattered rains are possible over Konkan and Goa, and the southern districts of the region will see moderate showers. Pune will see light to moderate showers whereas Nashik may experience light showers only. Mumbai is also going to receive patchy rains between October 31 and November 2.

These rains will subside by November 4. Until then scattered rains will continue and these rains can be attributed to the confluence zone which is over Vidarbha and Marathwada. Dry northerly and northeasterly winds are merging with humid south easterlies from the Bay of Bengal.

These opposite winds while interacting with each other give birth to cloud formation which subsequently leads to rainfall activities.
