Finally, Delhi received first monsoon showers of July 2024. After playing hide and seek for couple of days, skies opened up yesterday, albeit not for very long. Yet, some parts of Delhi NCR received sharp showers in the afternoon and evening hours. Airport observatory, Palam received 17mm and base observatory, Safdarjung recorded 9 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours. Ayanagar was the rainiest with 40.8mm rainfall during this period. Noida, Ghaziabad and Gautam Budhnagar also received light showers. Light rain continued during today morning as well.
Favourable conditions are prevailing for continuation of monsoon showers for Delhi, for the next one week or even more, albeit with varying intensity and spread. The monsoon trough is in close proximity of Delhi, with an embedded cyclonic circulation close to the area. Favourable features over Punjab and Haryana will also help sustaining the rainfall over the national capital.
Delhi will continue to have cloudy sky persistently, with multilayered clouds. Sunshine will remain suppressed for the next 5-6 days. Monsoon trough will oscillate north and south but, will keep meandering near the capital city and suburbs. Moderate showers can be expected on 04th, 05th and 06thJuly. The spread and intensity will reduce on the subsequent 3 days, on 07th, 08th and 09thJuly.
Courtesy a fresh cyclonic circulation forming over Bay of Bengal around 07thJuly and later moving inland, monsoon activity will enhance over the eastern and central parts of the country. This circulation will come closer over southwest Uttar Pradesh and northwest Madhya Pradesh on 09thJuly. Monsoon trough will get activated once again. Renewed monsoon activity, with moderate showers can be expected again over Delhi/NCR between 10th and 12thJuly. Monsoon showers on all these days are not likely to be hefty enough to disturb normal activities. Weather conditions will remain better and bearable with moderate temperatures, both during day and night.
