Delhi and its suburbs received mostly light rainfall in the past 24 hours. The record observatories at Safdarjung and Palam measured 6mm and 11mm of rainfall, till 8.30 a.m in the morning.  Capital City and NCR will have decent showers during this week. The intensity and spread of rainfall will increase tomorrow and the day after. The weekend on 14th and 15thSeptember is also expected to be wet, Saturday being wetter than Sunday.

The well marked low pressure area is lying over North Madhya Pradesh region. The cyclonic circulation is extending up to medium levels of the atmosphere. An east-west trough from the system has merged with the seasonal monsoon trough, which is running in the close proximity of Delhi. The weather system over Madhya Pradesh is likely to strengthen and the circulation will get more organized. Minor oscillation of the monsoon trough will bring it further closer and factually, it will pass through and through Delhi, above the friction level. This change will be responsible for intensifying the monsoon activity over Delhi/NCR.

Monsoon showers are likely to be scattered today and generally light in nature. The spread will increase tomorrow and become intense, as well. Showers will be accompanied with loud peal of thunderstorm, severe lightening and strong gusty winds. As the cyclonic circulation moves over Uttar Pradesh, away from Delhi, the showers will become relatively mild on Saturday and further less on Sunday.

The capital city record observatory at Safdarjung has accumulated seasonal rainfall of 913.1mm, so far and this is far more than the average during June to September. September, by itself has recoded 80mm of rainfall against the monthly normal of 123mm. The current spell over the next four days will take it closer to that figure. With heavy showers expected on 12th and 13thSeptember, it may even exceed the normal by a decent margin. The monsoon rains for Delhi are likely to be far and few after the current spell. Not much of weather activity is expected during next week.
