Bangalore witnessed a nearly dry September 2024. Otherwise, the month of September is the rainiest with an average of 212.8mm rainfall. September 2024 recorded mere 23.4mm rainfall, the lowest total, at least in the last two decades. Earlier, in September 2016, the city had the lowest record of 33.2mm and prior to that, it was September 2012 with 68.4mm. The month of October is the second rainiest month with a normal of 168.3mm. More often, it exceeded its normal in October with the exception of last year, October 2023, when it recorded just 96mm of rainfall.
Rains are likely over the city and suburbs during this week. The rains are likely to be light to moderate. One odd spell, in some areas could as well be heavy, more so, between 04th and 07thOctober. The city may gather over 60mm of rainfall in the next 7 days or so.
There are multiple factors triggering this weather activity. On either side of the coastline, there is a cyclonic circulation. In the Arabian Sea, the circulation is marked over south-central parts of the sea, far from the coast. However, the winds are getting pushed inland, across Kerala coast, reaching South Interior Karnataka. The other circulation is marked over North Bay of Bengal. It is getting more organized and also moving inland across Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Telangana region over the next 4-6 days. A trough is likely to extend southward up to South Karnataka and neighbourhood. Yet another trough is marked from Comorin region to Coastal Karnataka. Under the combined influence of these features, scattered rainfall is likely over South and Coastal Karnataka in general and Bengaluru in particular, during this week.
The wet spell will break the jinx of prolonged dry conditions during September. Most of the weather activity is likely during the evening and night hours. Persistent clouds and sporadic showers will dip the mercury by about 2-3°C, during day and light. Slight cool weather conditions can be expected, through the night and early morning. Days are likely to be pleasantly warm with temperatures hovering between 28°-30°C.
