Rainy days ahead for West Coast, Konkan and Goa to see more showers

September 4, 2019 6:35 PM |

Goa Rains

The West Coast of India comprises Konkan and Goa, Coastal Karnataka as well as the state of Kerala. The entire stretch of West Coast happens to be the rainiest pocket in the country during the Southwest Monsoon period.

While June, and July are the rainiest in the Monsoon months, August sees slightly lesser rains, with the withdrawal month of September observing the least amount of rains. Rainfall activity is usually seen in view of the off shore Trough which at times runs along the West Coast, while at times only along some regions.

Along with this, Monsoon systems which form in the Bay of Bengal, move inland and this is when the Konkan region becomes more active.

This Monsoon, so far, the West Coast has performed pretty well with Kerala until today, surplus by 7 percent, Coastal Karnataka by 16 percent and Konkan and Goa by a good 35 percent.

More rains are expected during the next 48-72 hours in view of the off shore Trough. Along with this, a Low Pressure Area is persisting over the Odisha coast and a Cyclonic Circulation is over Madhya Pradesh. Due to these systems, Monsoon will remain active along the West Coast region.

Konkan and Goa will see the most amount of rains, followed by Coastal Karnataka and the least over Kerala. Thus, in a nutshell, good rains are in store for the West Coast as of now.
