Rainy days ahead for Tondi, Madurai, Thiruvananthapuram, Alappuzha, Kochi, Kozhikode

The states of Kerala and Tamil Nadu have seen some rainfall activity in the past 24 hours. Pre-Monsoon season has begun for the region and the rainfall figures are proof of it. While some places in Kerala saw light rains, a few moderate spells of rainfall were also witnessed by a few areas in the state of Tamil Nadu.

During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Monday, Tondi recorded a whopping 21 mm of rain, Tuticorin 9 mm, Palayamkottai 7 mm, Kanyakumari 2 mm, Cuddalore 1 mm, Kodaikanal 0.6 mm. Traces of rainfall were also witnessed by Puducherry, Karaikal, Tiruchchirappalli, and Thiruvananthapuram.

All thanks to the well-marked low-pressure area which is over Equatorial Indian Ocean and adjoining Comorin area. The system will move in a west-northwest direction initially and then recurve towards northwest furthermore over the north towards West Central Arabian Sea.

Now, as per weathermen at Skymet Weather, rest of southern districts as well as many parts of Kerala are expected to witness moderate to heavy rainfall activities for another 48 hours. With this, sea conditions will be rough to very rough for at least next two days. Wind speed will be between 40-50 kmph gusting up to 60 kmph.

Rainfall intensity will reduce after March 14. However, on and off rains will continue over the region until March 17.

During this time, the cities of Tondi, Palayamkottai, Tuticorin, Kanyakumari, Madurai, and Kodaikanal, Thiruvananthapuram, Alappuzha, Kochi, Thrissur, and Kozhikode will observe some rains.
