Tamil Nadu and Kerala have remained dry since the beginning of January. However, rainfall finally showed up in both the states in the last couple of days thereby eliminating the elongated dry spell.

At present, a trough of low persists over Southwest Bay of Bengal off the Sri Lanka Coast. This is expected to result in activation of the easterly winds. These easterly waves are likely to prevail over Tamil Nadu and Kerala thereby resulting in the development of cloudy conditions due to the increase in moisture level. Finally paving way for scattered rain and thundershowers over both the states.
As per Skymet Weather, light to moderate rains are expected at many places over South Coastal Tamil Nadu from late January 25 until the next 2-3 days. However, by January 26, the intensity of rain is expected to increase due to which Chennai is also expected to witness some showers.
Rains are likely to bless Kerala by January 26 and until January 29, rain with varied intensity is likely to lash the southern peninsular India including some scattered showers even blessing South Interior Karnataka counting Bangalore as well.
The weather is expected to remain pleasant and it can be said as the last rainy spell in January for Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
