As of the recent data, until March 16, Delhi has received 683% of large surplus rains. Looking at the rain figures, the city has received 64.2 mm rains in March till now against the normal of 8.2 mm. In fact, Delhi surpassed its all-time record of March rainfall (which was 97.4 mm) during the first half of March itself. Looking back, three rainy spells were witnessed by northern plains including Delhi during the first half of March.
Now, as per forecast generated by Skymet, Delhi NCR might see isolated light rains on March 21. Thereafter, yet another active Western Disturbance will approach the region around March 24, again bringing good rains over Delhi NCR between March 24 and 25. Thundershowers accompanied by strong winds and hailstorm activities are also possible during that time.
The last spell of rains is expected over Delhi NCR by the end of March around 30 or 31.
As of now, both day and night temperatures of Delhi are below normal by three to four degrees. As the region is likely to be approached by one after the other weather systems in succession, the overall temperatures in the region are likely to remain well below normal during the entire month.
Talking about pollution, the overall AQI for Delhi NCR is still in moderate category at 109. We do not expect much increase in the air pollution now onward. However, a gradual deterioration in air quality might linger due to dry weather and absence of strong winds in the coming days.
