January 13, 2016 3:42 PM | Skymet Weather Team

Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh are likely to witness first spell of winter rains during the next few days. The rainy spell is likely to last between January 15 and January 19.

Vidarbha region of Maharashtra will also receive rain during this time period.

Rain and thundershowers are expected to commence from East Madhya Pradesh on a lighter note on January 15. The activity will strengthen further on January 16 and light to moderate rain will occur over more parts of Madhya Pradesh and also extend up to Chhattisgarh and Vidarbha.

Weather activity will peak on January 18 and some good showers are expected over entire Madhya Pradesh and most parts of Chhattisgarh. This time, rain belt will also cover neighbouring parts of Rajasthan and Jharkhand.

Thereafter, the intensity of rain will reduce significantly on January 19, particularly over parts of Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha region where rain activity will almost seize.

However, confluence zone will shift eastwards and Chhattisgarh will continue with rains along with parts of Bihar, West Bengal, Jharkhand and Odisha.

According to Skymet Weather, the rain activity will be on account of several weather systems affecting Central India. A feeble cyclonic circulation is moving across Madhya Pradesh. While, an anti-cyclonic circulation is over Odisha and adjoining areas.

The two opposing winds, northwesterly winds from plains and southwesterlies from East India will result in a confluence zone over Central India. This weather phenomenon will give rain over the region.
