Rainy and snowy week ahead for Srinagar, Shimla, Manali, Auli, Gulmarg, Pahalgam

The months of January and February are the most active months in terms of rain and snow for the hills of North India. Moreover, the frequency of the Western Disturbances also increases during this time even though the span of these systems is less.

However, this time, January left a very large rain deficit which exceeded the 90 percent mark in both the states of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. Meanwhile, the state of Uttarakhand was rain deficient by 66 percent.

However, the second week of February was the saving grace and widespread rain and snow was observed over Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh between February 11 and 13. However, Uttarakhand had not witnessed good rain and snow during this period.

Thus, the rainfall deficiency over Jammu and Kashmir after the rainy spell reduced to 59 percent while Himachal Pradesh was then rain deficient by 71 percent. Meanwhile, due to less rains over Uttarakhand, the state witnessed an increased deficiency at 70 percent.

However, now, the next ten days are expected to witness rain and snow of varying intensity. Moreover, a lot of variation is expected in terms of weather conditions including temperatures etc. Weather activity during this time will be more over the state of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh as compared to Uttarakhand.

Thus, hilly areas of Srinagar, Shimla, Manali, Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Auli are expected to witness a prolonged spell of rain and snow episode.

The weather activity is expected to begin on February 20. Thereafter, a short break is expected on February 21. Thereafter, between February 22 and 24, good rain and snowfall activity is expected. Thereafter, a slight breather is expected on February 26 and 27.

However, rain and snow are likely to occur again between February 28 and the first two three days of March. With this upcoming rain and snow show, the deficiency over these areas may reduce to quite an extent.
