Rains to welcome PM Modi in Ranchi on International Yoga Day 2019

On June 21, Friday - the world will celebrate the fifth annual International Yoga Day. This year, the theme for world yoga day is 'Yoga for Heart'. As per ministry officials of India, Jharkhand’s capital Ranchi will be the venue for the main event for International Yoga Day on June 21 and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend it. The event will be held at the Prabhat Tara ground and around 30,000 people are expected to participate in it.

Talking about the weather in Ranchi, tomorrow we expect light rain and thundershowers during the morning and afternoon hours. Towards evening, the intensity of rains will increase in the capital city of Jharkhand. Sky will remain cloudy to overcast throughout the day with pleasant weather conditions.

In New Delhi, the main event will be held at Rajpath and it will be organized by the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC). Programs will also be held at Red Fort, Nehru Park, Lodhi Garden, Talkatora Garden, Yamuna Sports Complex, Swarna Jayanti Park - Rohini, Dwarka Sector- 11.

The ministry has urged all ministries and departments of the central government, all state governments, and other related institutions to work in a coordinated manner to observe the day and secure long-term gains in the area of public health and wellbeing.

The concept of International Day of Yoga was first proposed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 27, 2014 - during his speech at the UN General Assembly. Thereafter, a draft resolution on 'International Day of Yoga' was introduced by India's Ambassador to UN, Asoke Kumar Mukerji.

The draft received support from 177 nations, the highest number of co-sponsors for any UNGA resolution. Thereafter, the United Nations proclaimed June 21 as the International Day of Yoga. On June 21, 2015, nearly 35,985 people, including PM Modi and dignitaries from 84 nations, performed 21 asanas (yoga postures) for 35 minutes in New Delhi the capital of India.
