Kolkata has been blessed to witness a rainy week. Since May 11, on and off showers have been pouring over Kolkata and other regions of West Bengal. However, very good rainy traces have remained absent from lashing over the region but other districts of the state have managed to record moderate spells.
As per Skymet Weather, during the last 24 hours, a trough was extending from East Bihar to North Bay of Bengal across Gangetic West Bengal. Due to this, few intense thunderclouds developed over Gangetic West Bengal and over West Kolkata region.
In the wake of this, rain and thundershowers showed up in parts of West Bengal. Though Kolkata escaped these showers but the nearby districts witnessed rains. In a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Thursday, Digha observed whopping rains of 57.4 mm, Jalpaiguri 12.8 mm and Darjeeling witnessed 9.5 mm of showers.
However, now the trough has shifted towards the west and is seen extending from Bihar to isolated Odisha. Therefore, light to moderate rain activity is still likely to occur over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and a few isolated showers over Gangetic West Bengal as well. Kolkata may also see some thundery activity during the late afternoon and evening hours today.
Thereafter, the weather will start clearing up over most parts of West Bengal and dry weather will continue to prevail over West Bengal including Kolkata within another 2-3 days leading to rising in temperatures once again.
Kolkata is expected to witness warm days henceforth and as the humidity levels will rise, the level of discomfort will also increase.
