Chennai has been dry for almost two weeks, leading to hot and humid weather conditions. However, rains are all set to make a comeback over the state capital during next 24-48 hours.

The upcoming wet spell is likely to usher in much needed relief from the sultry weather. Though day maximums have been settling near normal but it is the high levels of humidity which make the feel-like temperature even higher.

According to Skymet Weather, a cyclonic circulation is prevailing over North Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and South Odisha. A trough is also extending from this system up to Tamil Nadu across Rayalaseema.

Moreover, Monsoon surge is also prevailing over the entire region. All these factors combined together will bring rain and thundershowers over Chennai during next 48 hours. In wake of this, day temperatures are also likely to come down by few degrees.

Tamil Nadu does not receive much rains during the Southwest Monsoon as it falls in a rain shadow area. However, Monsoon current keeps the state vulnerable for few good showers at the regular intervals.

The states receives majority of its rainfall during the three-month long Northeast Monsoon, wherein Chennai records more than 60% of rain between October and December.
