Monsoon made a late advent over the state of Gujarat. Consequently, June was mainly rain deficit and barely any rainfall activity was witnessed over the region. Subdivisionally, Gujarat region remained rain deficient by more than 70% and likewise Saurashtra and Kutch was more than 90%.

But then through the first week of July, good rain and thundershowers begun over the area and Gujarat was pounded with heavy rainfall activities that prompted floods over southern parts of Gujarat and Saurashtra.

As of today, as a whole the state of Gujarat stands rain surplus by 7%, whereas sub-divisionally, Gujarat region saw surplus rains by 17%, while Saurashtra and Kutch witnessed normal rains but lay behind by minus 5%.

Subsequently in the last few days, the state has witnessed relatively mild weather conditions, when only light rainfall activities continued. This weather situation is likely to persist over the state for the next one week.

Usually, Gujarat observes good rain and thundershowers when an active weather system travels from central parts of the country to South Rajasthan, Gujarat and Southwest Madhya Pradesh.

Hence, at the moment in absence of any such system, rains would remain on the lower side over the state of Gujarat. Only patchy light rains would occur. In fact, moderate spells are also ruled out. With this, the monthly rains statistics of Gujarat would dwindle.
