There have not been much rains in the northwest region of India from past 5 days. In fact, the region was almost dry during the month of June and July.
However, by July end, Northwest India was enjoying 4 percent surplus rains. Soon the month of August started and good rainy spells lashed the entire northwest region. Many areas including Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh, West and northwest Rajasthan received few heavy spells.
Parts of Haryana and Punjab along with the hilly areas of the region also witnessed few heavy showers. On and off rains continued to bless the region until August 10. Thereafter, rain intensity reduced by August 11.
However, East Uttar Pradesh still continued with a few good showers. In spite of weak Monsoon activities since last 5 days, Northwest India is still witnessing rainfall which is 9 percent more than the normal as on August 15.
Now, two low-pressure areas, one over Southeast Uttar Pradesh and adjoining areas while another over northwest Bay of Bengal, persist.
These weather systems are likely to give good rains over the Central and East India while the Northwest plains are expected to remain dry. However, light rains are now a possibility over West Uttar Pradesh.
Rajasthan and West Madhya Pradesh along with West Haryana and Punjab may remain dry with only a few isolated showers. Rain surplus may also reduce significantly.
