Bihar has been witnessing on and off rains and the water levels also increased in the river leading to floods across many cities. In the past day, many districts of Bihar received light to moderate rains. In the last 24 hours from 8.30 am on Friday, Patna recorded 38.2 mm of rain, Farsebganj 21 mm, Gaya 16.2 mm, Bhagalpur 15.3 mm.

Chapra also witnessed light rain of 2 mm. These rains can be attributed to a cyclonic circulation which was persisting over Odisha. The moderate south easterly winds from the Bay of Bengal were feeding the moisture which subsequently led to cloud development and rains.

As per Skymet weather, the cyclonic circulation has moved towards the west and is now over Chhattisgarh and adjoining area. Therefore moisture feed has been reduced over Bihar. Now we expect scattered light rain in some parts of Bihar to continue for the next few days.

It is likely that there will be some relief from the flood situations as the rainfall intensity has reduced over Bihar and adjoining Nepal which was releasing water and increasing water levels in the river. As on August 24, Bihar is rain surplus by five percent and with the continuous rains, the rain surplus is likely to increase.
