Moderate to heavy showers were going on over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. These hefty rains had triggered incidents of landslides and flash floods in many parts of these states. These landslides even resulted in claiming many lives thereby paralyzing many districts of both the states.

In the last 24 hours from 8.30 am on Monday, the regions across the Western Himalayas witnessed light intensity of rain. Pantnagar witnessed 8.4 mm of rain, Nahan 9.2 mm, Kupwara 7.3 mm, Nainital 4.2 mm, Batote 4.2 mm, Pahalgam 2.4 mm, Srinagar and Sundernagar 2.2 mm of rain.

At present, the axis of Monsoon trough which is running close to the foothills of Himalayas will gradually become weak and is expected to move towards South. Hence, we expect rains to reduce over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Though, Uttarakhand may continue with light to moderate showers at some places.

Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand will witness rains but these will be scattered light in nature for the next three to four days. Weather across the tourist spots such as Nainital, Mussoorie, Manali, Shimla, and Dharamsala will become pleasant and the threat from landslides and cloudburst have also reduced across the states. As the rainfall activities have reduced over the hills of North India, the weekend can be considered a favorable time to head towards the hills.
