Rains to reduce over Kerala; good rains for Konkan and Goa

June 15, 2017 1:50 PM |

Inside - Kerala - June 5

The entire West Coast is under the impact of Monsoon rains ever after Southwest Monsoon marked its arrival over the region. So much so that most parts of the West Coast have witnessed very good downpour in the last 3-4 days. A few coastal regions have even seen whopping three-digit showers as well.

During the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Wednesday, Honnavar recorded 39 mm of rains, Panjim 22 mm, Mumbai 19 mm, Karwar 16 mm, Ratnagiri 14 mm, Kochi 13 mm and Mangalore witnessed 7 mm of light rainy spells.

These rains can be attributed to the active Monsoon surge over West Coast. In general, Monsoon rains show up in surges over West Coast. Whenever the surge is active or strong, the region receives heavy to very heavy rains whereas, light to moderate rains occur when the surge is weak.

As per Skymet Weather, as of now the heavy rains over West Coast is likely to lessen and hence only a few light to moderate showers are likely to show up at a few parts of Kerala. However, coastal Karnataka will continue to witness moderate showers. On the contrary, coastal Gujarat will remain almost dry.

As far as Konkan and Goa is concerned, South coastal Konkan and Goa will get to record some good rains.  Hence, to sum up, as the Monsoon surge is weak, rains are likely to reduce over parts of West Coast and the intensity of these showers will once again pick up the pace around June 18 when the Monsoon surge will become active once again thereby reviving rains over West Coast.
