Rains to reduce over Kerala; Coastal Karnataka to see light rains

July 24, 2017 3:54 PM | Skymet Weather Team

Since last few days, the entire West Coast of the country has been receiving good Monsoon rains. The last 24 hours were also not different and good rains were observed over the region, however, rains were of higher intensity over Konkan and Goa as compared to Coastal Karnataka and Kerala.

In a span of last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday, Harnai recorded 62 mm of rainfall, followed by Honavar at 22.4 mm, Thane and Karipur at 18 mm, Goa and Madikeri at 14 mm, Kannur 10 mm, Karwar 9.8 mm, Mangalore 7.9 mm, Vengurla 6 mm, Cochin 4 mm and Porbandar 2 mm.

An offshore trough is seen running right from South Gujarat Coast up to North Maharashtra Coast. Due to this weather system, light to moderate rains and thundershowers are expected to continue over many places of coastal Karnataka. Whereas, South Kerala will see almost dry weather conditions as the offshore is likely to become weak over these regions.

Similarly, Mumbai will also see reduced rainfall activities. However, chances of light to moderate rains along with one or two heavy spells cannot be ruled out over the entire West Coast.
