Coastal Karnataka as well as Kerala have been observing good rains for the last many days. In fact, during this time, some areas have also recorded a few heavy spells of rainfall.
A few three-digit rainy spells were also recorded over the region. However, rainfall intensity was much higher over the Konkan region throughout the season so far.

During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday, Karwar witnessed 22.2 mm of rain, Honavar 27.1 mm, Mangalore 32 mm, Madikeri 20 mm, Kannur 31 mm, Kozhikode 14 mm, Karipur 15 mm, and Kochi 16 mm.
These weather conditions are attributed to the presence of the off-shore trough which is running along the West Coast from Gujarat Coast up to Kerala region. Presently, this off shore trough has become normal which is why rains did reduce in the last 24 hours.

As per weathermen at Skymet Weather, rainfall activity is expected to reduce over both Coastal Karnataka as well as Kerala region. The reduction in rain is expected over the region because the off-shore trough is likely to weaken over the West Coast. Also, the possibility of very heavy rains over the region is also ruled out.
