Rains to reduce in Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot as Ockhi dissipates

December 6, 2017 3:38 PM | Skymet Weather Team

The last 48 hours were no less than a miraculous period for the westernmost state of the country, Gujarat wherein, most part of the state recorded some light with isolated moderate spells. Though the spells were mainly light, the temperature plunged by a few degrees, settling in the 20’s.

As of now, the rainfall activity over Gujarat is likely to reduce as the weather system responsible for giving rains over the state has now dissipated.

As per Skymet Weather, these rains can be attributed to cyclone Ockhi that travelled all the way from Southwest Bay of Bengal up to the east-central Arabian Sea. However, the intensity of this weather system has reduced drastically from a Cyclone to a low-pressure area which is at present over north coastal Maharashtra and adjoining South Gujarat Coast.

In the last 24 hours, from 08:30 am as on Tuesday, Ahmedabad recorded 11 mm of rains, Surat 12 mm, Surendranagar 4 mm, Veraval 3 mm and Idar received 1 mm of rains. While Porbandar and Kandla recorded some rainy traces.

Skymet Weather reiterates that rain in Gujarat is expected to continue for the day but as the system has already weakened and is likely to gradually fade away, these rains will mainly vary from light to very light.
