At preset, most of the northern states of the country are savoring good pre-Monsoon showers. Few parts of North Rajasthan, West Uttar Pradesh and Delhi have been drenched with light rainy spells in the last two to three days. Since then, even Haryana and Punjab are also witnessing rainfall activities.

At present also parts of Punjab are witnessing cloudy weather conditions. Hence, there are chances of rains in Punjab and Haryana almost any time now. In fact, a few parts of Haryana and Punjab observed light rainy spells in the last 24 hours as well.

Within a span of 08:30 am on Thursday, Ludhiana observed 18.1 mm of rains, while Amritsar, Bhatinda, Jalandhar and Patiala witnessed traces of rains. During the same time frame, Chandigarh and Ambala recorded light recorded light rainy spells of 1 mm each.

As per Skymet Weather, the reason for these torrential showers can be attributed to multiple weather systems affecting the region. The active Western Disturbance is over Jammu and Kashmir; also an induced cyclonic circulation is seen over North Rajasthan and Punjab. And a trough is seen running from Punjab to West Bengal.

Both these systems are responsible for the rainy weather over Haryana and Punjab.

Moreover, as per Skymet Weather, these showers are expected to continue pouring over both the states particularly over North and Southeastern Punjab and Haryana until March 11. Chances of thunder squalls in the late afternoon cannot be ruled out as well.
