The entire West Coast has been receiving light rains for the past few days. Areas including Konkan and Goa, Coastal Karnataka as well as North Coastal Kerala have been witnessing reduced rainfall intensity. In fact, rainfall remained subdued over many parts of Kerala for quite some time now.
Currently, a cyclonic circulation has formed in west-central Bay of Bengal, which is likely to move inland soon. As the system shifts in a westward direction, it will activate the off-shore trough along the West Coast. Rains are expected to pick up pace over coastal parts of Kerala by today itself.
Due to this system, rainfall intensity will also increase over entire West Coast right from Maharashtra coast to Kerala. Between June 19 and 21, moderate to heavy rains will occur all along the West Coast. In fact, during this period, Mumbai, which has been eagerly waiting for good rains will also witness those much needed rainy spells.
By June 22, a fresh Monsoon surge is expected to give heavy to extremely heavy rains over Kerala coast. Thus, the subdued rains which had decreased the monthly average for Kerala will improve the rain figures to quite an extent. In fact, the region may even get closer to its monthly average rainfall.
