Since last many days, only dry weather persisted over many areas of South India particularly Tamil Nadu. The temperatures, both maximum and minimum have remained on the higher side.
At present, the mercury is settling near normal over most parts of Tamil Nadu. This is due to a cyclonic circulation over Comorin area. And from this cyclonic circulation a trough is seen over interior Tamil Nadu. This trough is expected to shift towards coastal areas of Tamil Nadu and we expect scattered rain and thundershowers over many parts of Tamil Nadu particularly South and Coastal districts.
These rains will be light to moderate in nature and will be in patches. It means continuous rainfall will not occur but one or two short spells of thundershowers are expected in many parts. Chennai may also receive light rain in few places.
Places like Ramanathapuram, Shivganga, Thanjavur, Nagapattinam and Karaikal may receive scattered rains. Intensity of rain is expected to be more over South coast of Tamil Nadu whereas interior parts will receive isolated rain activity.
With such weather in place, we expect that maximum temperatures may fall by 2-3°C over some places but minimum temperatures may rise by 1-2°C. By February 15 most parts of Tamil Nadu will have clear weather conditions but isolated rain may happen over extreme tip of the state.
