Good rains were observed over the higher reaches of Northeast India including Upper Assam and Arunachal Pradesh a few days ago. However, a few areas in Upper Assam, and other parts of the Northeastern region remained dry. Now, rain is in the offing for many parts of the region.
Presently, isolated pockets of Northeast India have been observing dense fog. Minimums have also been recording in single digits for many cities with the nights being chilly. However, days are comfortable with maximums settling in the 20s.
A fresh weather system is likely to affect Northeast India tonight onward. While lower parts of Assam will observe some rainfall activity this evening, the spread and intensity of rain will increase tomorrow. On January 20, fairly widespread light to moderate rain will be observed over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, and Manipur.
This rainy spell will result in the dip of maximum temperatures throughout the region around January 20 and 21. During this period, minimums will observe a slight increase resulting in less chilly nights for at least two days.
However, rains will reduce around January 22, and after the wake of the system, a drop in minimums is likely. Temperatures will once again record in single-digit paving a way for chilly wintry nights.
