At present, a Confluence Zone is persisting over several parts of the country. This system is moving gradually towards East. Southeasterly winds from Bay of Bengal are merging with South-westerly winds from Arabian Sea over Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
This has already resulted in scattered light to moderate rains over many parts of East Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. Moreover, isolated heavy rains occurred over East Madhya Pradesh. During the last 24 hours, Betul managed to receive 41 mm of rain.
Generally, the month of December and January remain almost dry in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. These types of unseasonal rains are very uncommon.
Now, also we expect rain and thundershower activities to continue over eastern parts of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh today and tomorrow. This unseasonal rain is going to last for another 24 to 48 hours. Thereafter the weather will clear up. The weather activities will start receding beginning from East Madhya Pradesh. However, Chhattisgarh may continue to receive scattered light rains with one or two moderate spells on January 4 as well. Chances of hailstorms cannot be ruled out from these areas.
By January 5, we expect the weather activities over Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh to clear up. Day temperatures will start rising which have fallen by two to four-degree Celsius due to cloud cover and rains.
Thereafter, northwestern winds will also start blowing over Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh leading to increase in minimums by two to three degrees.
Another spell is expected over the area on January 8 and 9 in the wake of the formation of another Confluence Zone.
