Rains to lash Andhra Pradesh even as Cyclone Kyant weakens

October 27, 2016 2:04 PM |

Rain in AndhraCyclone Kyant in west-central Bay of Bengal has weakened into deep depression. The system is presently centered at 15.7°N and 85.5°E, about 320 southeast of Visakhapatnam and 460 east of Machilipatnam.

According to Skymet Weather, incursion of dry winds and increase in vertical wind shear have to led to the weakening of the system.

Further, system will continue to lose strength and by Thursday night, we expect system to turn into a depression. However, system still has potential to give good rains over Andhra Pradesh during the span of three days.

As per the weathermen, the system will give scattered light to moderate rains and thundershowers over South Coastal Andhra Pradesh on October 28. Few areas are also likely to record one or two heavy spells as well.

As the system nears the coast, coastal areas will also be exposed to the squally winds speeding up to 40-50 kmph.

We also expect the depression to weaken further into a low pressure area during the next 24 hours. By October 29, system will cross the coast and is most likely to fizzle out as well.

Along with coastal regions, rain belt will also cover more parts of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Light to moderate rains are expected over many areas with isolated heavy showers.

Intensity of rains will reduce by October 30 but on and off rains will continue. By October 31, rain activity will take a back seat, however, isolated showers cannot be ruled out.
