At present, Bihar is the most rain deficient state in India by 47%. Likewise, Jharkhand is also rain deficit by 38%. Till now, both the cited states have not seen sufficient rains. The reason could be attributed to the absence of major weather systems over the region.
On the other hand, there was the successive formation of systems over west central parts of Bay of Bengal off Odisha and Andhra Pradesh Coast that traveled inland over Odisha, giving good rains over the state. In fact, of late these showers have triggered flood like conditions over the area. As a result, Odisha stands rain surplus by 16%.

Even though few districts of Jharkhand managed to receive good rains, but these were not adequate to push down the rain deficiency of the state. All this while, Bihar witnessed dry weather conditions in view of the axis of Monsoon trough that persisted south its normal position. Moreover, no significant weather system affected the state, causing some spells of rain.
During the past 24 hours, mainly light to moderate showers were observed over Jharkhand, Odisha and Bihar, where Ranchi received 41 mm of rains, Jamshedpur 39 mm, Keonjhargarh 29 mm, Chandbali 27 mm, Sambalpur 23 mm, Jharsuguda 20 mm, Bokaro 20 mm, Daltonganj 19 mm, Bhagalpur 15 mm and Koraput 14 mm.
Now, we are expecting the rainfall activities to increase over Bihar during the next 48 hours, and by July 27, many districts of the Bihar, Jharkhand and North Odisha will start getting light to moderate showers accompanied with few heavy spells. These rains will occur between July 27 and August 1.
The reason for the increased rainfall activities would be the northward shift of axis of Monsoon trough towards Bihar and Jharkhand.
Consequently, the rain deficiency over Bihar and Jharkhand will ease and the rain surplus is anticipated to increase slightly over Odisha during the rainy phase.
